I can make you a lovely wooden sign, most people spend somewhere between £125 and £450.
....and look at the size! Typical size somewhere between 750 and 1000mm wide and 200 to 500mm high and a thickness of either 22mm or up to 50mm.
Remember, all prices include the fun and exciting design process and there's no added VAT. Plus delivery through Parcelforce.
I'm a believer in human capability. We all know a computer will create a technically perfect sign, but to my eye they're usually flat, lack any character and completely miss out on human creativity. The big issue in today's world is, there are many signs around, we're all used to seeing signs wherever we go, but how many do you actually notice?
That's where I come in, that's where a handmade sign can win hands down over a computer generated one. Done well, a handmade sign draws you in, it is noticeable, it can convey passive messages as well as as the written text. By making a sign by hand it can be full of creativity, through design, hand carved and hand painted images, business logos and other 2D or fully sculpted 3D ornamentation.
If you're concerned about the environment, a handmade sign also means fewer machines, lower carbon footprint and of course much less electricity in the production. In my case I hardly use electricity at all, my average workshop daily electricity consumption is one and a half kilowatt hours - negligible. I'm told by Scottish Power, all the electricity I consume is from renewable sources (I live and work under a wind farm).
First of all, it's about the wood. I only use wood that has been grown here in the UK. It's 100% legal and sustainable. I'm a low carbon manufacturer because I mainly use hand held manual tools. The saw mill I use is relatively local and therefore the miles traveled are low.
Secondly, it's about design. All too often the design options are constrained by a software program that drives a CNC router. NOT so here, whatever your need for an eco-sign, it will be individually designed by human creativity. Have something unique in mind? For example, you can have a bespoke house name sign to your design, or we can design it together. You can have 2D illustrations or a 3D sculptured wooden house sign. The same goes for commercial and business signage, logos and full colour illustrations - all carefully designed or branding replicated.
Thirdly, it's about a hard wearing, robust and heavily made wooden Eco-signs. All are practical alternatives to finite materials and they proudly shout about your commitment to environmental responsibility.
All my signs, are heavily made from Scottish grown Larch. They are about 35 -40mm thick and can be any size or shape. I make them to be long lasting and robust. They are finished in a high quality yacht varnish to protect their natural appearance and colour. Your sign will benefit from some future maintenance by re-applying new varnish once every three or four years, but equally, you could leave them to 'weather' naturally.
If it's a house sign you're after, show your friends and neighbours that your household is not just concerned about the Climate Crisis, but you're doing something about it. Have a house sign handmade in Britain, using British grown sustainable and responsible wood, make a statement, incorporate Art and have your sign reflect our mutual culture or specifically your own family's culture. Let's be modern and real.
Why have an ordinary house sign, when you can have an Arty Sculpted sign?
You can design it, I've no problem with that, or would you rather receive ideas from me or how about a bit of both. Essentially, my aim is to make the sign you want. It can be a square or rectangle with a recognised typeface. Or, how about a modern shape, with the name written in your child's hand - yes, I can replicate that too. Either way, everything is exclusively made from 100% legal and sustainable British Grown wood.

Firstly, included in the price is a fully consultative design process. You can design it - I'm fine with that, or perhaps you would prefer ideas from me, or both you and I work on it together, or perhaps you might like to use a design from your child - no problem.
My signs are made from Scottish grown Larch. The timber is kiln dried and two or three boards are laminated together for added strength. I then carve or route your wording into the board by hand and then hand paint the lettering. You can specify a typeface or I can replicate your hand writing. Any symbols such as the pointing finger is carved by hand and painted.
The edges are then machined into a pleasing shape, the wood treated with a sealing oil for longevity and then I apply a minimum of 5 coats of proper (really good stuff) yacht varnish for that golden glow.
